Word has it that Terry Francona has been taken to the hospital with chest pains. I wish him all the best.
Here’s an article from the Arizona Daily Star on Francona’s former medical woes:
During his flight to Seattle in early November 2002, Francona had chest pains so intense that he believed he was having a heart attack.
He wanted the job, though, after getting a taste of managing with Philadelphia (1997-2000), so he did the interview despite feeling so much discomfort that he thought about not getting on his return flight to his home outside Philadelphia.
After flying back, Francona went straight to a hospital, where he was diagnosed with a blood clot in his lungs.
“I was really lucky. I should have died. If that thing had moved during the flight…” Francona said.Francona was hospitalized for about 10 days and was put on blood thinners and a diet regiment, his chest pain dissipating in a matter of days.
Good luck Terry.
