Watched the Mets-Reds game. How familiar it all seems: Pedro scuffles in the 1st inning, then settles into a groove, then has his chance for a win blown by the bullpen. When he was on, it was scary: fastballs setting up pinpoint breaking pitches. 100 double-digit strikeout games in what, 10 years? Ten 10-K games a year. That’s ludicrous.
Meanwhile, Ben Sheets and Oliver Perez were supposed to battle it out in some marquee matchup of young pitchers, but Perez looked somewhat lost on the mound. Good luck, by the way, to the Pirates fan who stands to win $1 million if the Bucs turn a triple play in the correct inning of the correct game. Sadly, that seems about as likely as me winning the Singapore lottery this week.
Incidentally, watching the games showed me that Remy & Orsillo, for all their flaws, are so much better than the other announcers.
