Since everyone’s thoughts are on football (heck, I’m spending next Monday morning watching the Superbowl), I should note that David Ortiz was on the sidelines of the Packers-Rams game in Green Bay back in December (link).
According to that article, Ortiz played for the Class A Wisconsin Timber Rattlers in Appleton, 25 minutes away, in 1996. (According to the Timber Rattlers’ site, the then-David Arias led the Timber Rattlers in hits (156), runs (89), home runs (18), and RBI’s (93).) He met a local girl and got married, and now they’re building a home on a new golf course outside of Green Bay.
It’s hard to imagine anyone from the tropics choosing to spend part of winter in frigid northeast Wisconsin. But that’s love for you…
