Also, I’m glad to read about Yankee fans that will be openly rooting against us. I don’t like this “the rivalry only exists for Boston fans” line. It’s a rivalry that will consume both groups, locked arm in arm like Jacob wrestling with God, eternal. And now that both teams are beefed up and evenly matched, the rivalry just gets better.
Having said that, it was awful nice of Yankee fans to send in congratulations. Mutual respect is always good. (Hey, I’m not an all-out Yankee Despiser.) My take: Matsui was great, and was cruising to MVP until David Ortiz had other ideas. I hate seeing Miguel Cairo, but that’s because he’s a really pesky #9 hitter. Gordon and Rivera - overworked during the season, came back to bite them. Still can’t stand Sheffield, Lofton, and A-Rod. Then again, I think many Yankee fans can’t stand A-Rod now either.
