Sox 7, Orioles 5: 7-5, 7-5

·2 mins

It’s so strange how the Orioles played us tough all year, and then we sweep a doubleheader from them using a lineup of (mostly) scrubs. Where were these Orioles when we were challenging for the division? B.H. Kim looked especially great in that second game - definitely deserved the win after Pedro #2 flubbed it up. Nasty stuff. The movement’s back! Hopefully it’ll last through next season, because I don’t think Kim’son the postseason roster.

And it’s bizarre that the Cleveland-Minnesota game had to be postponed not because of weather but because a college football game was going to be held later in the Metrodome. If I were any of the Twins (aka the Boston farm team - thanks for Ortiz and Mientkiewicz!) I’d be furious. A not-inconsequential game that could determine home field advantage gets delayed near the end of the season?

Now on to my rant.

Here’s the thing I hate about MLB.tv - they’re really strict about national blackouts, and they thought I was in the US for this game and wouldn’t let me watch the game. And wouldn’t you know it, during the time I spent trying to resolve the problem, the Sox scored 6 runs. $#%^!!!

Theoretically, it’s quite simple - you call the support number (an international call, which is annoying enough), and they send you an e-mail link that should set a cookie on your computer that will allow you to watch the game. Of course, the support staff kept explaining to me that there was a blackout, even though I stated upfront that I wasn’t in the US (and therefore had no way to catch the game). And of course, even after following all the instructions the computer still thought I was in America. My solution finally was to delete all the MLB-related cookies, which finally caused the system to recognise the obvious fact that I am where I am, in Singapore. And even then after 15 minutes it decided I was in the US again. So I tried to log on again, and got an even more annoying message: “Your account has been accessed too many times”. No shit Sherlock, that’s because you keep disconnecting me. This isn’t any way to build up international support for the game.
