Double-take time

Strange line in the Providence Journal:

That gave [Javy] Lopez six homers off the Red Sox this season - including one in each of the last three games - and 174 RBI. (Link)

If Javy Lopez really had 174 RBI, you’d think we’d hear more about his assault on Hack Wilson’s RBI record. As it is, I’m already impressed by Tejada’s 149 RBI. Is that a record for a shortstop? I don’t know, but speaking of shortstops’ records, I remember Nomar (who? - heh) breaking the record for most RBIs by a leadoff man with 98 in ‘97 - Johnny Damon is now at 93 RBIs, of which only 2 came in any spot in the lineup other than #1. What an astounding season the man’s had. And credit to the Sox’s #7-#9 hitters too, who’ve got on base enough to make the RBIs possible. Like Kapler and Reese and Mueller in yesterday’s first game.
