Not Walpole Joe

·1 min

Another day, another weirdly-worded Joe Morgan column:

I have to believe that part of Texas’ success this season has been the addition of Soriano and his winning attitude. Soriano’s do-what-it-takes-to-win approach, which was bred in the winning tradition of the New York Yankees, has helped the Rangers

This is what win happens when you winning are obsessed with winning. You winning say “win” and “winning” all the winning time. :) Having said that, Morgan is right: the Big Red Machine is one of the greatest infields of all time. Tinkers to Evers? No chance. And I actually liked it when he talked about coming up with the backhand flip for the DP:

So I kept moving toward first base, farther away from second, to see how far I could go while remaining accurate and keeping enough zip on the ball. I got to where I could use the backhand flip accurately halfway between second and first – and it was definitely quicker than fielding the grounder, turning toward second and throwing the ball sidearm.

Now this is what you get ex-players to write for. For once I read a Morgan column and received some insight.
